Making the most of the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi

The use of the steam room and sauna along with the Jacuzzi is a great way to leach out toxins from the body, improve circulation, improve lymph flow, relax muscles and stimulate the anabolic (rest and repair) side-of-the body and, therefore, improve recovery from hard exercise.

But, also using a self-massage ball will also enhance the use of these three modalities. For example, you could do a circuit of all three or the “ones” you like using the most, for two or three rounds, depending on how much time you have on your hands.  Whilst using the massage ball on a certain body part with each modality.

For example:

Round one

Steam: 5 minutes – Ball on: Calf’s

Sauna: 5 minute- Ball on: Thighs and back of upper legs

Jacuzzi: 5 minutes- Ball on: Lower back

Round two

Steam: 5 minutes – Ball on: Shoulders / upper back

Sauna: 5 minute- Ball on: Neck

Jacuzzi: 5 minutes- Ball on: Chest

Round three

Steam: 5 minutes – Ball on: Upper arms

Sauna: 5 minute- Ball on: Forearms

Jacuzzi: 5 minutes- Ball on: Feet

To keep things simple, if you just use circular motions, rolling the ball across the muscle, up and down the muscle, pressing and holding the ball on tights spot for 8-12 seconds you should feel any tightness easing up. Of course, this is no way as effective as a massage therapist doing it for you with their thumbs and fingers, but it defiantly helps to keep your muscles and surrounding tissues loose.

Give it a go sometime,

Joe
